Default FM8 pro DEMO installation fails - 10-28-2005 , 04:41 AM

Hi.

I'm an absolute newbie with filemaker. I have downloaded both DEMO-versions
7pro and 8pro.

My problem is:
While the installation of 7 works perfectly, 8 won't start. I tried several
times. Everytime I renewed the system partition completely with Norton
Ghost, so that 8 should'n't know that 7 has ever been running on the same
system.

During the installation of version 8 everything looks fine. But when I start
the program, the following message appears (translated moreless accurate
from german):

"Filemaker 8 pro has not been correctly installed or has been changed by
another program. Try to install again after you've found out the reason... "

----which is pretty difficult for me-----

OS is XPpro SP2. All updates are installed.

Could there be a problem because MS Access is installed in the same system?
Access works fine (technically).

Thank you very much for any hint!

Mark

BTW: I've already googled excessively..........

Did you install Ghost as part of the whole Norton Utilities suite? If so,
the virus checker or some other part of the Norton suite may be interfering.
Go back to your clean copy of the OS, then use MSCONFIG to boot up without
all the utilities active. Install FileMaker 8 under those conditions and it
will likely work. Then you can restore the prior setup under MSCONFIG and
reboot to your usual state.

PERFECT! Sometimes solutions are closer than they appear - but it takes
smart people with wiped windshields to see them...

Thank you Bill!
