Default FM8 Copy field multiple times - 10-19-2006 , 01:04 PM

is there a way to copy one field to many records without copying and
pasting each time. Can you copy down like you can in a spreadhseet?

Windows: Control + =
Mac: Command + =

Copies the value in the current field to all records in the found set.

don't mean to be dense, but this doesn't work, or I'm not sure what you
mean. I want to copy the contents from one field through all records.
For instance, if I have 900 records that all have the same zip code,
how would I add that zip code to all 900 records without copying and
pasting down 900 times (when I say down, i'm in the "table" view)?

P.S. I don't know how to write scripts.

Thanks!

Look at REPLACE CONTENTS in Help.

This command does what you want and has nothing to do with scripting.

When I say "Control + =" I mean to hold down the control key and press the
"=" key.

The menu command is Records--> Replace Field Contents...

Step-by-step:

1) Click into the field you want to work with (e.g. "Zip Code")
2) Choose "Replace Field Contents..." from the Records menu, or press
Control+=
3) Specify how you want to "fill" the records.

This affects all records in the found set and cannot be undone.

got it! What I had done was clicked on an empty field so there wasn't
anything to copy down. Thanks for your help!
