Default FM8.5 DDR Inaccurate about Value List usage? - 03-25-2007 , 04:34 PM

Hi,

I tried searching the Google archives, thinking this question was
surely asked before... but maybe my search skills are off today.

I'm rebuilding an FM6 DB in FM8.5. Right now I'm mostly cleaning up
unused junk in the FM6 solution, and I'm periodically doing a
conversion to 8.5 to generate a DDR to help find scripts, layouts,
etc., which are no longer needed. (I'm finding a *ton* of these.)

However, I'm finding that value lists are being reported as being used
on several layouts, when they do not appear to be in use at all.

For example, I renamed one value list "ZZZ1 Initials" and then did a
search of the entire DDR for "ZZZ1", and it only appears a single
time--in the value list definition. However, the DDR reports that this
value list is used by *five* different layouts. I've searched and
searched and cannot find anywhere where the value list is being
used... it's not involved in any fields, relationships, sort orders,
field verification, scripts, etc. Nothing.

Is the DDR incorrect about the Value List being used, or am I missing
something? (I'd love to delete the roughly 20 value lists which fall
into this category... this solution truly is a mess.)

Thanks for any input!
-Rob Steward

I just ran a quick test.

I created a value list, Test1 and set a field on a layout to enter a
Drop Down list with that VL. I ran a DDR. As expected, under Value
List, Test1 showed as being used on that layout. In the layout
section, it was shown for that field. I went back, changed the Drop
Down list to Edit box, ran the DDR again, and again the Value List
section showed Test1 on that layout, but in the layout section, the
field on that layout was listed just as an Edit Box. When I went back
the that field and checked Drop Down List Test1 showed as the default
choice.

In short, it looks like your Value Lists were used on that layout but
are no longer. If you chose a Edit Box field that would likely use
that VL, I'd think the default choice for a drop down list would be
that now-unused value list. You could probably delete them without
worrying about affecting your layouts.
