Default FM Pro 6 in web application - 08-05-2003 , 01:54 AM

Hi,

I know these are rather broad questions, but I recently purchased FM
Pro 6 and I wanted to be sure it could work for my needs prior to
opening it.

The bottom line is I've established a mortgage brokering business, and
I wanted clients to be able to complete their application at my
website. So, my broad question is, if I create aloan application
package, do I need to make my computer be the server? Or could I use
a web hosting company? Do I need to find a web hosting company that
has FM Pro on their server or could any web hosting company work?
Does the information my client submits reside on my computer, or will
I have to pull it off the web host's computer?

What method would provide the greatest security for my client -- my
computer as the server or the web host's computer?

Will FM Pro 6 work for this, or do I need FM Pro Web Server?

Last, not quite FM Pro related, but if I use a web host's computer and
run the business out of my house, does anyone know if this would be
considered residential service from an ISP's perspective? I need to
establish satellite service, since I'm limited to 28.8 otherwise, and
the installation costs are different for residential versus business.
So, if my computer is the server, does that make me a business user,
but if I use a web host company would I be a residential user?

I know these are broad questions, but thanks in advance to any help.

Jason

Jason:
Depending on how busy your site will be, here is what you need if you decide to
host yourself.
A. Reasonalby fast CPU
B. A static IP address
C. If you expect a lot of traffic, more than 10 guest in a 12 hour period you
will need to use FileMaker Unlimited.
D. A high speed modem, cable, or DSL line.
E. You will want to use custom web publishing not Instant Web Publishing.
F. Not just any host can host your site if you decide to go that route, the
host has to either have FileMaker, Lasso, or Webstar etc.. to host your
database.

Send me an email at: stephen (AT) fmwebschool (DOT) com and I will send you a free 40
page tutorial that will answer all of your questions in detail!
