FM data update -

Is there a smart way to update databases between FM applications over a
WAN? It should be important that
the whole database(data+layouts) is updated and only the altered parts are
moved over the network not the whole stuff!
As I know, FM works as a disk-based database, constantly accessing the
server's disk while a file is opened remote. But does this mean that
each time I open a FM file remote, the complete data is send or only the
current layout with one or more records for that layout to display?
In other words is it possible to create subsets of information and just
have this send over network as possible with other DBMS?
Is it possible to have two FM application communicated via messages
(message passing)?
thanks in advance,
chris
