FM always prints to the same printer no matter which is chosen in the
print dialog box or print setup. This is particularly serious for us
as we are working on a remote computer via VPN and the printer which
receives all print jobs is 150 miles away! Other applications seem
happy to send jobs to our local printer but not FM. This is when
calling the print dialog from the file menu, rather than a script step
which may be "remembering" the wrong printer. A few days ago it did
manage to change its favourite printer but we have been unable to
figure out what if anything we did to help, or whether it was
spontaneous; and it is now stuck on the other printer and unable to
change.
After some googling I see this has been reported as a bug for FM on
Windoze, not sure about Mac. Discussions seem to have ground to a halt
but I'd like to hear from anyone who
* has a successful workaround;
* has any idea if FileMaker Inc are listening;
* knows whether it works OK on most computers and is just an
occasional glitch which affects an unlucky few... in which case some
general Windows tidying or reinstall might help?

P.S. I am looking into "PrintSetup Plugin" which is said to fix it,
but I am slighly loathed to pay for a workaround for something which
really ought to work in the first place.

What is it with FileMaker and printing?? nearly every version seems to
have some print-related problem and we all seem to overlook it and
work around while FM twiddle their thumbs! Grrrr :-(

Script the Print routine and let the end-user select the target printer from
the Print dialog. Assuming the printer drivers are correct on your network
.... the output should go to the selected printer. In scriptmaker, you can
select the target printer in the Print function (checkmark the Restore
button) so it should display this printer choice when the Print button is
clicked.

If logging on remotely with the FILE>Open Remote.... then the printer output
will be to the local desktop printer by default.

version 8.5v2 updater which (fingers crossed) fixes this bug. Yippee!
