Default fm 6 to 8 lost fonts - 10-24-2005 , 11:34 AM

hi, windows, fm6 v 4, test converted a 100,000 record database from 6 to
8... the conversion went pretty smoothe, but the font i was using on
most of the 80 layouts named "Terminal" is missing in fm8 and is not on
the font menu.... Funny thing is fm6 and fm8 are residing on the same
machine. Can someone help me by pointing out how to get 8 to use the same
fonts that were active in 6?
thanks

Unfortunately, FM7 and FM8 have opted to ignore Type 1 fonts.

Only TrueType/OpenType are now supported.

That is a good question. I've only found Fontographer to
be able to do this. And that's pretty expensive.

This won't be fast but might help a little.
You can select all fields on a layout by selecting 1 field and then
pressing CTRL + SHIFT + A (if that combination doesn't work, try
something similar... it's 2 keys and "A").
On the Mac it's COMMAND + OPTION + A

You can also select all text / field labels doing the same thing.

As I've mentioned before, the problem is that FileMaker 7 and 8 won't
recognize Type 1 fonts.

I've just found a utility that will convert Type 1 fonts to OpenType.
Convert the fonts, install the OpenType versions, and your layouts should be
good as new. The best thing is, it offers a free 15-day evaluation:

Acute Systems
CrossFont
http://www.asy.com/scrcf.htm

Features:
a.. Convert PostScript Type 1 fonts to OpenType fonts for Windows PC and
Macintosh.
a.. Convert PostScript Type 1 fonts between Windows PC and Macintosh.
a.. Convert TrueType fonts between Windows PC and Macintosh.
a.. Generate missing supporting font files (AFM, PFM, INF, PFA, etc.).
a.. Support for OS X data fork fonts (.dfont).
a.. Character outlines, metrics and hinting are preserved between
platforms.
a.. Drop font files and folders onto main window for easy conversion.
a.. Automatically search folders and subfolders for supported file types.
a.. Automatically assigns kerning if it exists.
a.. Create font families with up to four styles (normal, bold, italic,
bold-italic).
