Default Files Not Showing Up In Server 7.0 - 01-16-2007 , 12:09 PM

I had a computer go down that was being used as a server with FM 7.0.
We replaced the computer in the same spot, installed FM 7.0 server.
The PC is showing up in the network and when you click on "open remote"
the pc shows up but no files are displayed on the right hand pane. The
files are set up to be shared through tcp/ip

Any suggetions?

Thanks

I don't see why the files do not show up form a workstation if you provide
as Host the IP address of the PC that holds the files.
One thing though : don't forget that the FM Files should be put in the
FileMaker Server folder or one level down, and be NON SHARED in the OS sense
as Filemaker takes care by himself of the 'FM sharing' of files in a
network.

Thanks for your response. Yes, the files are located in the FM
Server/data/xyz folder. The ip address of that server is
192.168.0.102 someone told me that because it ends with .102 it is a
submask and that may be making a difference.

No, '.102' doesn't make any difference. The 'submask' is another line and
should be set as '255.255.255.0'. But you are right in making the IP address
of the server a fixed one. It helps in particular in you wish one day to
re-route the 5003 port in the router to that server' address to access your
files from a remote location.
I am just noting your sentence "the files are located in the FM
Server/data/xyz folder", which is not the location that the server book
requires. It requires the files be put directly in one only folder - I call
it here 'YourFolder' -, and then in say, 'Program Files' / 'FileMaker' /
'FileMaker Server' / 'YourFolder'. That's maybe the answer...
So just to check, additional comments :
- are your files set to 'Multiuser' ? Sure they are, ...
- have you set - as an example - the FM Server PC with say the 'Program
Files' folder as 'OS non shared', the all automatic backups sent to a
'c:\BackupFiles' 'shared' (in the OS sense, in order to be on separate move
put on a safe backup media) ?
- if yes, you should see that 'BackupFiles' folder from any workstation,
which will proves you that that PC belongs actually to your network.
Please advise if you now can 'see' them.
