Default FileMaker Status panel - 06-09-2005 , 03:04 AM

A few years ago I found a replica of the statuspanel of filemaker. The use
of this is that you can put buttons in it to save desk-space. By statuspanel
I mean the grey area on the left with the booklet on it.

Can anybody help me?

Greetings and thanks in advance,

Lars Putter

Is it not possible by using the multiple windows feature of FM7 to
produce a control panel in a seperate floating window?

The main issue would be that clicking the controls would have to
control the records in the other window, NOT the window of the status
palette.

That wouldn't be that hard at all. IMO the main issue would be that the
floating window would disappear beaneath the main window every time you
clicked on the main window.

There is simply no 'always on top' setting.

No, but window position controls make it fairly simple. I've got two
solutions now that use an "always at the left" main navigation palette.
Works fine. You position new windows as many pixels to the right as the
palette window requires.

You do need to determine beforehand that your users are working at
sufficient screen resolution to fit all windows in. You need to pay
attention to context for your scripts...what window are you in for each
step? When you transfer focus, the operation of your script is affected,
so you have to explicitly make sure you're in the right window or create
the right window in which to operate.

BTW, I do this cross platform. Windows is not as elegant in
window-handling as Mac OS, but it works.

On the other hand, although I use the concept for navigation, I prefer
NOT to try to put operational scripts anywhere but in the native window.
Too much context to consider.
