Default Filemaker Pro ver 5 Updater (to 5.3) - 06-22-2011 , 03:58 PM

Anyone got any link to the updater file for FMP 5 that fixes assorted
bugs? (Decimals display, amongst others)

The ftp link to apple.com appears not to be working and the local copy I
had on a hard disk has got lost.

TIA

Steve

More interestingly, does anyone know of any company that supports
software that is 16 years old? Yes, FM 5 was released in 1999.

I know it still works on some OSes, but to expect active links for
updaters is a bit...optimistic.

Well, I am an optimist....

<SFX: Victor Meldrew>....

If I can bits for a car at 12 (not 16) years old, I expect I should be
able to get a few kb of updater file. Everyone is telling us how cheap
storage is these days and that everything can be put on "clouds" etc, etc.

It works on XP and last time I checked, XP Pro is still pretty much alive.

In a small business, some of us have to pay for our own software and FMP
5 (and Win XP) does the job I want so I don't particularly want to pay
for the new "bells and whistles", and then the higher spec PC, memory,
etc, etc.

I can get printer driver files from Canon for a printer of a similar
age. Guess who will get my business again for printers and guess who
won't get my business for a new database running under Win 7.

I presume the "Pro" part of FileMaker Pro indicates "professional"......
Maybe they need to look at the FileMaker website and examine the active
link to ftp.apple.com?

OK then, anyone got a copy on their hard drive anywhere?

Steve

I have a feeling this may be changing. Many of the browsers are stopping support older OS's (indirectly). For instance, Google Chrome is only supporting the previous 2 or 3 versions of the browser. As the browser evolves, it will require things that only come along with newer OS's.

I suppose it's not an wholly imminent event...but it is progressing rapidlyto that eventuality. But browsers are one of the most used apps on every OS.
