One file has a share, and ***ALL*** files are on a local folder on my WinXP SP3 desktop. Every time I open the main file I get an error saying something like 'cannot open share because Network Share is disabled.' THE FILES ARE NOT ON THE NETWORK! They are all in the *same local folder*. Enabling Network share fails, so that does not fix the problem. |

You say it's the main file. What does file - opening each file to all users? |
|
Could be a user definition thing, could be a password thing, could be something else. |

The answer is within the missing information, I assume. - Martin |

Take Harry's approach to disable it for the files. You don't need it. |

The problem is FileMaker sees a network-share when should not be. You say it's the main file. What does file - opening each file to all users? The main file has fields from a second file, so both files open at the same time. Opening the second file alone has no problem. My problem is I don't understand HOW FileMaker shares fields from 2 files. Especially since I did not make the DB in the first place. |

My problem is I don't understand HOW FileMaker shares fields from 2 files. Especially since I did not make the DB in the first place. Because someone some time defined to use sharing for one of the files, and now the application warns you to enable sharing. =========== Tecknomage =========== Computer Systems Specialist ComputerHelpForum.org Staff Member You should know about the garbage in - garbage out problem. Like "Take Harry's approach to disable it for the files" does not help much if you don't include what "Harry's approach" was. |

I dialog will appear when you open the files, since sharing is not yet enabled. |

*The one that DID work* was from Harry (?). The one that said I had to set [X] No users. But a comment of FileMaker v8.5, the need to set "No Users" when you already have Network sharing Off is really dumb. If the coders for FileMaker were thinking*logically*, setting Network sharing to Off should have AUTOMATICALLY set "No users" OR have Filemaker ignore (gray-out) the users options. |
