Am using FM Pro 5.5v2 on Windows XP SP2 PC Create a new database, try to make it multi user and share it and get error "Filemaker cannot host a file because of a network error. Files marked as multi user will not be available over the n/w 10048" I've opened up port 5003 in XP firewall (TCP and UDP), and I'm stuck ! Have to use 5.5 for various reasons (ie upgrading not an option at the mo) There are a few articles on Net but no answers posted that I can see... Any help much appreciated ! |

I looked with Google using '10048 error filemaker' and got many responses. Among which : http://www.issociate.de/board/post/1...ror_10048.html where I gave an answer that did not help, apparently (back in 2004). But others like : http://www.digitalpoint.com/lists/22100.html seemed to give better answers. Is your hosting PC has WinXP Home or Pro ? I guess there is a difference : it may - I am not 100% sure, though - work only with the 'Pro' version. My own take is that - to say the least - opening the 5003 port creates problem. Remember that FileMaker has its own way of 'sharing' files that has nothing to do with the OS-sharing and that may - that will - provide conflict leading to corruption. The only correct way to open a Multiuser FMP file from another workstation on the LAN is for the W/S to open it with the 'Host' button, or thru 'File / Open Remote', or a small FM file that does that for you once initialized. Also the FMP file to be used as a host should be in a non OS-shared folder. See also : http://www.briandunning.com/errors/2217 And : http://www.digitalpoint.com/lists/58259.html And : http://www.nabble.com/Re:-Pc-FMP6-ne...-p3243644.html etc. HTH. Please advise when you solved your problem. Remi-Noel "Mike Lloyd-Jones" <m_l_j (AT) hotmail (DOT) com> a écrit dans le message de news: HpidnaGeNMEWDgPYRVnytAA (AT) bt (DOT) com... Hi PC is XP Pro, and it seems to make no difference if port 5003 is open or not in Windows firewall The problem I'm having is sharing the database from the 5.5 host - so when I switch from single tomultiuserthats when I get the message It's not in a shared folder, and I've tried it in different locations and again, no difference.
