Default Filemaker and Mail - 08-03-2012 , 03:14 PM

You know, you would think that if Apple owns Filemaker, they should be
able to figure out a way to take the information that one enters into
one or the other and have it populate similar fields in both apps.

It depends on exactly wat you're trying to do, but there are ways
(plugins, AppleScript, etc.) to link FileMaker Pro databases and Mail or
Address Book, or you simply use FileMaker Pro as an email client instead
of Mail.

The number of people who need such features would be very limted and
probably not worth FileMaker's time doing.

Although Apple does own the FileMaker company, they are run as two totally
separate companies. It's highly unlikely that FileMaker gets any more
information than other big Apple application developers like Microsoft,
Adobe, etc. - if FileMaker did get extra "inside information", then it
could lead to all sorts of "anti-competitive" court issues.

I've never used GMail, but if they have an outgoing / SMTP mail server,
then it should work from FileMaker Pro just like any other email
application.

FileMaker's email issues are when using an external application to send
the emails ... and they're caused by the email applications not having /
using the standards.

FileMaker can send mail through any SMTP server. For google, the
outgoing server would be "smtp.gmail.com", port = 465, SSL Encryption,
plain password, user name is the user's full email address, and then
that accounts password.
