Wath is the modality to full eliminate login acces on the fm9 files?

The login appear on all login user or guest... with user with name or guest

Open the file with full access and set an automatic login. Once you've
done, the login dialogue will pop up only if you press Alt (Mac) or
Shift (Windows) when you open the file.

Naughty, naughty ... Apple's Mac keyboards don't have an "Alt" key. They
have an Option Key, a Control key and the "daisy" / "splat" key. In fact
some keyboards don't even have the first two and use a silly, indescribable
symbol instead. (

Not guilty. My iMac came with Ctrl and Alt keys in 2003.

My Apple Keyboard has that key labelled as "Option" but also in smaller
letters above that it does say "Alt". )

The other key is labelled "Control", with the third key labelled with the
"daisy" symbol and an Apple symbol (some keyboard also have this one
labelled as "Command").

Even worse is that the keyboard shortcuts are displayed in the menus (and
Mac magazines) using the silly symbols, but some keyboards don't have the
symbols, so you're left guessing which keys they mean. \

Bring back the goold ol' days of the Apple II's "open Apple" and "Closed
Apple". ;o)

Default [OT] Mac keyboard symbols (was Re: Filemaker 9 password) - 12-09-2010 , 05:32 PM

The word "option" (with smaller "alt" above) appears on the US English
keyboard, which is also used in Australia and New Zealand.

In most other countries, that key has the option symbol (looks like a
railway switch) instead of the word "option", but still has "alt"
written on the key.

This is why many Mac users outside the US, Australia and New Zealand
call the Option key the Alt key. It is only "Alt" when used in a Windows
context. Its official name on the Mac is "Option".

That key has always been called "Command". The symbol you are referring
to as a daisy (I call it a cloverleaf) has been there since the first
Mac model, and is the one used in menu keyboard shortcuts.

The Apple symbol was added to the Command key starting with the first
ADB keyboard (1986) until about mid 2007. It was originally added due to
the dual use of ADB on the Apple IIgs and Mac. The Apple IIgs used the
Apple symbol in its menu keyboard shortcuts, while the Mac used the
cloverleaf/daisy symbol, so the key had both symbols.

I don't know why it persisted into the USB era, but at some point Apple
finally decided the Apple symbol didn't need to be on the keyboard any
more, confusing everyone who had got into the habit of calling it the
"Apple key".

Of course, "Closed Apple" became "Option" on the Apple IIgs, and it was
in the wrong place on the keyboard (to the left of Open Apple instead of
to the right of the space bar). Irritating if playing a game which
assumed Open Apple and Closed Apple were on the left and right side of
the spacebar, so you could use one with each hand.

[Here endeth the history lesson. We now return you to your regular
discussion about FileMaker. I hope.]

KeyCaps (and its Mac OS X equivalent) also display the symbols on the keys.

Just as irritating are the yucky Apple's new "mini" keyboards that ship as
standard with the desktop Macs which only have one set of keys. (

For those who need it:

System Preferences > International > Input Menu, check the "Character
Palette", "Keyboard Viewer", and "Show input menu in menu bar boxes"

Too bad it doesn't display the character code values, though!

There's also one in the Utilities folder which you can simply put in the
Dock or alias to the Desktop or elsewhere.

Character code value?? If you mean the ASCII codes, or similar, then there's
little point since so few people would need them or use them.

If you're coming from Windows world and mean the Alt key codes, then there
aren't any - the Mac doesn't do things that way and all you need to do is
press the correct key combination (e.g. Option-e followed by e produces the
the e with the acute accent above it in most fonts).
