Default FileMaker 8.5 on Vista RC 2 - 10-12-2006 , 05:42 PM

Hello All,

For curiosity's sake, I started testing an installation of Vista RC2 on
one of my development machines in hopes of seeing if I could achieve
most daily tasks without too many crashes - yes, I do like to live
dangerously. Anyway, I have already noticed an issue with editing
layouts in FM 8.5 Advanced. Whenever I attempt to drag any element
existing on a layout, the entire layout turns black until I release my
mouse's control over the element. I was suspicious of this being a
video driver issue with my motherboard's onboard video (Intel
82915/GV/910GL Express), but have not yet been able to replicate the
same problem in any other applications.

So, has anyone else gotten to experiment a bit with RC2 and FM 8.5?
Same issues?

Hi,

Did you try turning off hardware acceleration ? (if there's such a thing
in Vista). I usually do that no matter which version of
Filemaker/windows I'm working with.

Marc-André,

I did turn off all hardware acceleration, but the black screen problem
continues to persist. From taking a closer look at the problem this
morning, it appears to be a refresh problem in FileMaker. For
instance, when I click an area on the layout (without selecting an
element) and drag the mouse button, the layout constantly flickers in
between the visual layout and a completely black 'void' where the
layout and status area should be. Anything outside of the
layout/status area screen is unaffected.

I will install Vista RC2 on another machine this morning to test the
problem with a different video card; I'll post my results here.

I've experimented a similar problem in XP. I believe it's related to having
other windows open. Could be IE with a flash object, or even a notification
from Windows Messenger.
It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, I close or at least I
minimize all other windows.

I would suggest you to disable Aero, the nice looking Vista desktop. Just
disable it and see what happens next.

I would really like to know how FMP works under Vista. I was about to
install it, and then I saw your post, so I decided to wait a little. Can't
stop production to play with new toys.

All this BS makes me want to switch to a Mac. Heheh! But I guess, it's like
the saying: The neighbor's grass is always greener..

Who knows!?
