Default Filemaker 5 on Vista OS - 05-31-2007 , 12:41 PM

Hello,

One of our new laptops at work is equipped with Vista and Filemaker 5
(I know, I know, ancient version) was installed on it. Now we are
having issues accessing network databases. Has anyone had success
using Filemaker 5 on a Vista computer or, more specifically, has
anyone found any solutions to running an old version of Filemaker on
Vista? We're weighing the options of buying version 8 or fixing the
issues at hand.

All help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Angela

I haven't any experience, but I have a word of caution before you buy FMP
8.5 (current version) This is NOT built for vista. It might just work, but
then again the guys at filemaker don't give any guarantee. From their
website: system requirements: Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4), Windows XP
Professional Edition (Service Pack 2)

IMHO it would be better to wait for the next version, just to be on the safe
side.

Keep well, Ursus

I've been running some runtime files in FMP5 on Vista and have had no
<<problems>>. Everything seems to run okay except when dealing with
Users. I installed the program in Program Files and, while it ran
fine, other users didn't see the same program. That's right, every
user saw a special set of the files that ms in their convoluted wisdom
chose to put in each users "Virtual Store" which isn't even visible
without some digging. I read up on why they did this and concluded
there is something <<very>> funny in the water in Redmond Washington.
Our solution was to put all our files directly in C:. Now all users
see the same set of records. "Gosh Dorothy, and I thought Kansas was
strange!"
