Default exporting retaining field headings with integrity of data - 06-19-2005 , 01:06 AM

Hi,

I need to export a Filemaker 5.5 (windows) database to SPSS. Because I
have over 150 variables, I need the column headings to be transferred
over as well. From a previous post I found that if the database is
exported as HTML the column headings are retained. However when I
export it in HTML I somehow go from having 197 records to about 250
(i'm not quite sure why, but the records seem to be in the right
columns and such). This doesn't occur when I export into tab, csv, wk1
(lotus 123), or mer (merge) file types. However those file types do not
export the headings.

Any suggestions?

I have excel and access available to serve as an intermediary between
filemaker and spss if necessary.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Yes, the "mer" format exports the names of the fields exported.

You're right. the mer format exported the headers and didn't export
more records then it was supposed to.

My bad for not checking properly.

Thanks for your assistance, it saved me a headache.

A few quick tests with FileMaker 5.5 (Mac) shows no problems when using
HTML export. Everything worked fine, including Text fields with returns
in them and Repeating fields.
