Default Exporting Records to server: filemaker 6 - 11-21-2005 , 08:10 PM

Hi Group,
I have a question regarding scripted exports in FM6. I am logging user
operations to a field for each user and tracking how many entries. The
field will hold 1195 of my "lines" or about 62700 chars before throwing
up an error.

When it gets to 1100 lines (entry count) I would like to export the
record (primarily for the logging field), then purge this field. I
require the exported file to just go to the server's disk (Server 5.5
eventually - for now I'm still testing in a peer-sharing environment).

Before building this or mocking up a test senario, I'd appreciate
someone letting me know if exporting via scripting w/ no dialog will
attempt to save the file to a user's machine or whether it will confine
itself to the server (host for now) as required. If the later is
possible, what steps must be taken?

I can think of a few ways to force it using scripts that just run on
the server and access the record, dumping the data but I would like to
keep the whole project together, scripts, files and all.

Cheers,
Matt

As far as I know any export is saved in the FileMaker folder on the
users computer.
I believe scripts initiated by the server ignore the export command but
I'm not sure about that one.

I don't think that there any script that can be initiated by the server
as the server - I mean FileMaker Server 5.5 - is not a FileMaker as
such, it just makes the files available to the FileMakers of the
workstations.
Of course if the so-called 'server' is a regular FMP and not an FMS it
could run its own scripts, but who would do that as an FMP used as a
server (and/or an FMS) is sitting on a separate machine with no user on
it.
At least that's the way I understand it.
