Default Export Field Contents - "Native Format" - 05-23-2007 , 08:18 AM

FMP8.0.n Server 8.0.n
We are trying to extract a large library of images that were pasted
into a container field. We are hoping to get "real" images that we
can store on an external drive then just view by reference.
The image field, when using GetAstext, returns a "?" - this would
confirm our thought that the images are all pasted in.
"Export field contents" on my OS X Mac produces an image that PREVIEW
won't open but QUICKTIME Player will open. The HELP files suggest
that the export is in "native format", which then brings the
question.

What is the native format for a pasted image in WinXP? If I export
the file on my Mac and view the "Movie Info" in QT player is see it is
APPLE QUICKDRAW native. A copy/paste on my Mac will export a JPG if I
append the extension - otherwise I get the QuickDraw. The exports
fail on the XP machines, same script, as I am not adding a file
extension - don't know which to try.

A well covered topic, which boils down to this. First: FMP is NOT an image
storage device. It can be done, but you need to know what you are doing.
When you have copy/pasted the only way to retrieve them is as bitmap (bmp).

Keep well, Ursus

Ursus

Well covered perhaps, but always a challenge when dealing with legacy
apps.
Anyway I was pointed at Graphic Converter (http://www.lemkesoft.de/xd/
public/content/index._c2lkPWdjLWVu_.html) which will do batch file
conversions of the exported "pasted" images. So I can export out all
3500 images as "Apple Quickdraw" and do a batch conversion to JPG.
Nice and simple. And quite a cool app as well - very robust and multi-
talented.
