Default Dynamic Value Lists - 01-26-2007 , 10:05 AM

Hi all-
I'm having a problem trying to create value lists that change in one
record when a field in another record is changed. Basically I have two
tables: Attributes and Options. Attributes is related to itself via a
self-join and related to Options via a calculated key. What I want is
for the associated Options value list for one record to change based on
what was selected in another related Attribute record.

Example: I have two Attribute records, Size and Color, which I am
viewing in a portal. When I select Large for Size from a drop down
Value List, this changes the calculated match key between Color and its
associated options, so that it is now related to Large Red and Large
Green, and those are the options that should appear in the drop down
list. So far this method works. Kind of.

The strange behavior is that sometimes if I select Large, then view the
Color value list, it shows Large Red and Large Green, as it should.
However, if I then change the selection to Small, the value List in
color still shows Large Red and Large Green, instead of Small Red and
Small Green. This is despite the fact that I can see that the Color
calculated match key has changed and this value list should now show
the Small color choices. Only if I select one of the (incorrect) Large
colors, then re-click into the Drop Down list, does the correct Small
Colors value list appear.

What is causing this? Is it something about how Value Lists are
updated? Any help or suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nate
