Default Drop down list. - 11-10-2005 , 01:17 PM

If you create a runtime solution that has a drop-down, how do you allow it
to be edited? The drop down menu has edit in it BEFORE I create a runtime
version, but when I create the runtime version, edit is gone so items can't
be added or changed.

You might have to create some script to manage the table that is used
for the drop-down list (ie calls a layout for the table that is in View
as Table model). My opening layout (main menu) usually has a "Maintain
reference tables" button that allows users to do this. You could also
put a button for the maintenance script on the layout with the drop-down
list field.
There are good reasons to carefully manage user access to lookup tables
so I am not suprised that runtime does not allow direct editing of
drop-down lists.

FM7&8 > You can create a table that holds the values for your list. Just one
field per record. Then create a list that references to this field. Then
allowing the users to edit this table.

You've been able to do Value Lists this way in FileMaker long before
version 7 was released. The ability is definetly in FileMaker 4 and
probably was in FileMaker 3 as well. )

Being that as it is, it still works on 7&8. And although there surely are a
few versions 3 and 4 around, There can't be many. I guess you were trying to
live up to your AKA, being helpfull. ;-)
