Default Developing Invitations for a training program - 12-10-2006 , 10:21 AM

Hi,

I'm trying to do something fairly simple, but not sure exactly how to
do it. If anyone can offer some advice, it'd be a big help. Here's my
situation:

1. I have about 300 student names
2. I have approximately 30 classes.
3. Each class is being conducted on a fixed, pre-determined schedule
- Class 1 might meet on January 1 from 2-4pm
- Class 2 might meet on January 2 & 3 from 1-4 on Jan. 2 and 3-5 on Jan
3.

Classes are not recurring - they are on a fixed schedule for a finite
number of days (the longest-running class runs for 4 hours each day for
4 days).

What I need to do is develop a Filemaker file that will allow me to:
1. Send invitations to students with their exact list of classes along
with the day and time that the class will be taking place.
2. Generate sign-in sheets for each class, with each participant
listed out for that class
3. Be able to see which classes are taking place at any given day in
any given time block.

Does anyone have an idea of how I should go about setting this up?
Currently, I have all this data in an excel file, but it is set up with
many repeating fields (I was using Pivot Tables, hence the repeating
data). I am willing to re-work a lot of the data if I have to (I
realized that I couldn't import an excel file with repeating data and
automatically normalize it in Filemaker); I just want to know how I
should set the Filemaker file up. For example, should I use
many-to-many relationships between students and classes and then
between classes and days? I'm not sure...

Thanks!
