Default Developer App name single icon technique - 09-19-2005 , 12:54 PM

When I create a runtime solution using Developer 7, it names the file
the name that I specified, but the runtime application that goes with
it is called Untitled. Untitled is also what is displayeed in the
leftmost menu (where the application name goes). This seems quite
inelegant. Is there a way to name it so that it has the same name as
the file.

Taking this one step further, is there any way (and this may be more of
a Mac question than a filemaker one) where I can bind all the elements
in the runtime solution into a single icon, so that my users can just
click on that and not have to mess around with which is the app and
which is the file. This also would allow me to put a custom icon on
the app.

thanks!

If you're creating the runtime solution on a Mac then in the window
"Specify Solution Options" you have the "Create Runtime Solution
Application" checkbox. When you check that, a bunch of options such as
"Runtime Name" shows up in the bottom portion of that window.

As far as changing the icon on the application, yes this can be done,
in OS 9 you could change it by getting info on the item and then
replacing the the graphic, I don't know about OS X.

Ah, found it. Thank you. It's very unclear which is the app and which
is the file and why they are separated at all. It makes it very
unclear to the user, especially since if they click on the wrong icon,
it doesn't work.

I know how to change an icon. My question is how can I make all the
files into a single file so that the user only sees one icon (and thus
there is no confusion about what to click). Is there a way to put them
all in a single directory or package and have that file designate the
action that happens when you click on it?

You can not merge the FileMaker files into 1 file when creating a
runtime unless you designed your entire solution as 1 file.
I believe FileMaker suggested that you stress to the user that the
first time they run the solution they should double click the app, not
the files after that apparently it doesn't matter.
