Default create a link or hyperlink - 10-04-2005 , 04:09 PM

I am using FMP 7 on Windows XP.

I would like to create a link in FMP to a web site. I have no idea if this
can be done or how to go about it. What do I need to do to get started????

Thanks

Place a button object on the layout. A button setup window opens.
Scroll all the way down to Miscelanaous category and select "OpenURL"
command.
You are then prompted for a url.
In browse mode, whena user clicks on this button, a browser opens and
loads the web document you specified.

You can also turn other objects into buttons and make them open web
pages.

I hope this helps

That is exactly what I was looking for. I had looked through the scripts
but did not see this one. Thank you for setting me straight.

Is it possible to have FMP do the same thing to open another file? I see
how you can do it with another FMP file, but can you get FMP to open a Word
file, for example???

Do you mean a new word doc or an existing one?

I would like to point FMP to an existing file.

This is very easy to do.
In script maker select "Send Event" script step in "Miscellaneous"
group. The options for this script step include open file.

Is it possible to have Filemaker automatically populate the field
behind the button? Specifically, suppose I have a field "name" and a
field "year". Is it possible to add a button and have Filemaker
automatically set it up so that clicking the button on a record will
open the Word file nameyear.doc where name and year are taken from the
record?
[I can do this in Access, but I'm seriously thinking of switching to
FM, and I'd like to make sure this is possible.]
