Default Converting FM3 files w/o the program - 06-27-2007 , 09:04 AM

Hello, I need to open a set of old filemaker 3 files. The files I've
found so far are Windows, but I'll likely find Mac ones as well.
Anyway, I tried using FM8.5 but it told me that I had to open them in
FileMaker 4. I don't have any of the older versions of FileMaker and
thus am wondering either:

a) If there is a utility or program out there that can convert FM3
files to some modern readable format (whether Filemaker, Access,
etc.)?

b) Or, how I can find old versions Windows/Mac of FileMaker 4?

Thanks in Advance,

EF

The files are totally cross-platform, there are no windows or mac varieties.
And will open on any mac or windows computer. For mac it might be the
Classic, but they will open. You need the program for the correct version,
this may be troublesome to get. You might get lucky on ebay, but I wouldn't
count on it. Best you ask around in your neighbourhood if someone with an
old version. But that said: I open Vb8.5 adv, goto file, goto open and under
file-types I see *.fp3 among others, so V3 should open when selected this
way.

Keep well, Ursus

I don't know about Filemaker Pro 8.5, but according to this FileMaker
Support page, http://tinyurl.com/2fbsxz , FileMaker Pro 8 can open
FileMaker Pro 3 files.

Perhaps you can't just double-click the files. Have you tried opening
FileMaker itself and then using the Open command in the File menu??

I do have FileMaker 4 and 5 installed on my Mac, but being on a dial-up
connection I can't really download and send large files. Sorry. (
