Default Commit Records/Requests questions - 03-21-2007 , 12:03 PM

1. What is the "Perform without dialog" option for?!? Here is what
help says:

"Perform without dialog prevents a dialog box from displaying when the
script step executes that asks the user to confirm the commit action."

Which would be great except...I have never seen a dialog box asking
the user to confirm the commit action! If this is a bug and they go
ahead and implement this alleged dialog box in the future, then I am
screwed.

2. The help also says "The Commit Record/Request script step exits the
current record or find request..."

So what is the point of committing a Find Request?!?!?

Thanks and please excuse all the "!??!?!"

In Layout Setup, you'll see an option "Save Record Changes Automatically."

If that box is checked, a change to a record will just happen, and the Perform Without Dialog option in the Commit step is superfluous.

If that box is unchecked, you'll be asked to confirm any change to the record. The Perform Without Dialog overrides the confirmation in the Commit step.

As to the point of committing a find request, I'm with you. The Perform Without Dialog option appears to be just as superfluous there.

Matt

Perfect explanation Matt, thank you. Although I dimly remember reading
about this new feature, since I'm only working with a legacy solution
so far I never ran across it. Thanks again!

One use .. as I have read ... is to put a Commit step at the end of a
script so that the user is not in a field. That frees the record for
other users. That is if I have understood what I have read in some of
the books.

Thanks but the question wasn't "What is the Commit Records script step
for?"
