Default Choosing between Server 8 or Server 8 Advanced - 05-26-2007 , 12:49 AM

Hi,

it's time to upgrade our filemaker softwares. Three years ago, we
bought Filemaker Server 7 and Filemaker Server 7 Advanced but i'm not
sure if we really need Advanced.

Basicly, we use Filemaker with to type of applications:

1- First, we have a 'inventory application' an our employees use this
system to manage our products. They use a internet address to access
the system, like: http://www.mycompagny.com/invetory/ They need a
login and password. Five employees use this system.

2- We have a "online focus group". Our clients (between 50-100) can
access this application and answered some questions. They use a
internet address to access the system, like: http://www.mycompagny.com/focusgroup/

We use IIS & Microsoft Windows Server 2003 to host these solutions and
all works fine.

So, presently we use Server 7 and Server 7 Advanced but I'm not sure
to know the difference between each products and before to buy
filemaker 8 server and filemaker server 8 advanced, I would like to
know if I need Advanced.

Your opinion ?

Thanks for your help!
David

The difference between Server and Server Advanced is that FM Server is a
file server -- it serves your FM files to users who are using the FM Pro
client application. FM Server Advanced is an upgrade that provides the
file serving, but also provides web service. FM7 and FM8 require Server
Advanced for either custom web publishing (PHP, XML/XSLT), Instant Web
Publishing or external data access (ODBC/JDBC).

If you need to serve your database to more then five users at a time
via the Web you need Server Advanced. No way around it.

Hope this helps.
