Default Changes after a crash - 10-23-2006 , 02:36 PM

Has anyone else noticed this - or do you think I'm immagining it?

After a recent FM crash, I am now finding that some corrections in
scripts over previous weeks have reverted to the way they were before
they were corrected. Weird!

Anyone else had this?

When I had this, I was looking at an older version of my file which was
still present and opened inadvertently

I agree on the older version still residing on the system. I have done
this before as well. I have never had a file revert to an older
version update.

Anyhow, you MUST have on the network only ONE copy of the file(s) to be
'shared' among users. If you want to keep older version you must have then
renamed or zipped.
The above applies only if you don't use FMServer. If you use FMS, then the
shared files have to reside in the FMS folder or one level under it. Then
you may have other copies on the server machine as backup for example. But
anyhow - even with FMS - avoid local copies of the files if they have the
same names as the 'real' ones, as FileMaker may be very prompt to find an
odd file eg an older file anywhere on the network (except again on the
server machine).
That said, what do you mean when you say that you had an 'FM crash' : that
should never happen. You get a crash in very few circumstances : the most
frequent being a wrong setup ie if a file is 'shared' in the OS sense - as
FM has its own way to 'share' files that will lead to conflict (ie
corruption then crash) with the OS sharing mechanism - and you copy it when
in use, or an abrupt power failure.
