Default App packaging - 03-21-2011 , 09:03 AM

I have a family photo data base that I can distribute to family
members as a run time app and ask them to complete fields such as
Name, Location, Date, ... in order to document the photos.

How do I package the Contents so that only the FamilyPix.app is shown
in the Finder?

How do I do that in Windows XP on my old PC?

Is there a group where this question would be more appropriate?

Elvin, FMPro11 Adv, Mac OS10.6 and Windows XP

You need to create the runtime application itself on the appropriate
operating system.

You could create a second database file which does nothing but open the
real file. Then the "opener" file can be by itself with all the other
files in a sub-folder.

You can also give each file a custom icon. It's a simple copy-paste for
Mac OS (paste into the Get Info window for the file), but its a bit
trickier for Windows where you'll need an Icon Editor application - in the
past I've used AXIcons and another one called Michelangelo (I think).

That's probably the easiest approach.

Opps! Sorry. I meant to add that if your runtime system needs some of the
extra files installed into the operating system's folder, then you'll need
to use an Installer creation application. It's been a long time since I
had to do a Windows installer, but I used either iVise or InstallContruct
(according to the file names in my storage folder).
