Not sure when this went up, but I just noticed Filemaker.com has what
they are claiming is a substantial update to the ODBC/JDBC drivers.

A quick skim of the feature list looks promising... performance and
stability improvements, better container field support, and more.

Since I'm having problems with ODBC and FM7 now (I have ODBC and FM6
'working'.. but we are also upgrading) I'll have to give this a try.
