Default [ANN] FileMaker Developers in Southern California - 02-05-2007 , 12:49 PM

If you're in the Southern California area, you'll want to know about the
next meeting of FileMaker Developers in Southern California (FMDiSC).
Our next meeting will be this Friday, February 9th, from 9:30AM to
1:00PM. If you've never been to one of our meetings before, just feel
free to show up -- we'd love to see you at the meeting! New members are
always welcome!

This month, we are all in store for one of our very best meetings to
date, which is why we're calling this next meeting "The $2,000,000
Meeting!" How would you like to earn $2,000,000 in only 11 days?! Well,
you're going to find out how when you see Howard Schlossberg's amazing
fundraising solution that was just successfully used for an 11-day
fundraising campaign that brought in over $2,000,000 in contributions.
This FileMaker solution was used by more than 1,000 volunteers, and the
business rules for the donations & gift levels/pricing were
extraordinarily complex... but the challenge was to design an interface
that was sooo intuitive to a volunteer who had never done this sort of
thing before that they could be up & running almost instantaneously.
Another challenge was to track gift inventories with up to 60 users
hitting the "merchandise" records simultaneously. And if that wasn't
enough, this eye-popping solution also includes automated address
validation (against a post office database) and secure credit card
transactions that don't use eAuthorize and that don't store credit cards
in the database, per new rules established by the credit card companies.
FOLKS, YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE THIS SOLUTION!!

Also, one of our very favorite presenters Jeremiah Small will give a
primer on integrating FileMaker with other technologies with Custom Web
Publishing. He will focus on the fundamental concepts that FileMaker
developers need to know in order to talk intelligently with programmers
of other technologies. Those other programmers may seem a bit
intimidating with all their acronyms and whatnot. Learn how to hold your
own or even blow them away with the cool stuff you can do on your side
of The Great Divide. Learn how to navigate the mysterious
"no-man's-land" that lies between FMSA and all other web technologies
using nothing but FireFox and a little reference material. Learn how to
do "server side" scripting with FileMaker, to make your queries both
more compact and richer. This is the instructional guide you've all been
waiting for!

And then, Chris Jackson will present a case study of streamlining a
customers work flow through automation... and we're going to end the
session with more eye-popping tips & tricks from Scott Rose, David
Knight and others.

I'd love to go but a 9:30am meeting time is incompatible with most work
schedules.

Sorry. Meetings long ago were held in the evenings, but a majority of
FMDiSC members decided they'd rather be with families at night and that
the educational value of the meetings easily justified taking time out
of the work day for it. And a majority of our 150 members are
independent consultants/developers, which also makes schedules more
flexible.

Anyhow, if you can take a few hours from work, then I think you'll find
the meetings are worth it. Otherwise, there are always great groups
like comp.databases.filemaker (this one) to learn from.
