After FM8 converts my FM6 file and I attempt to open, FM8 serves - Open "filename x" using: Account name and Password? FM8 is getting the account name from the FM8 application preferences. But I am at a loss to what password it is referrring to. I've tried passwords related to the converted file to no avail. My keychain password - noluck. What am I missing? Can anyone advise? |

Try the account name as the password; it is case-sensitive, so you may have to try a few variations. The default password string after conversion is the account name. -- John Weinshel Datagrace Vashon Island, WA (206) 463-1634 Certified For Filemaker 8 Certified For Filemaker 7 |

Thanks for your replies. I tried both no password, the account name, and the single password in the saved file and still no access. Could it be a problem jumping from FM6 to FM8? Hmm, not sure what you mean by 'single password in the saved file'-- do you mean the Filemaker 6 file? In any event, the default password on conversion is also, indeed, the account name. The problem lies most likely in the case-sensitivity. Since case did not matter pre-7, it was commonly ignored, and you may not recall the case of the 6 password. But, however it was left, the new password will fail until you get the case right. Have you tried various case combinations? |

I deleted all the passwords in the FM6 file with the exception of one that allows full access; I selected FM8 to open the FM6 file; A file conversion initiated saving the FM6 file with a new name and converting the file to FM8; I was prompted as stated above for an account and password, with the account name using the default system name from the FM8 preferences; I ok'd with no password, using the account name as password and the one password left in the FM6 file. No luck. ? This happened on two separate MAC systems. One attempted to convert and open in FM7 and now FM8. Just tried that and got the same result. One user with complete access, no password. Converted and was again prompted as before. Left password blank and was again refused access: " The account and password you entered cannot be used to access this file. Please try again."
