Default Would PSQL10 / BA1.3 combo be more/less stable than PSQL 8.6/BA 1.0 ? - 08-07-2008 , 02:23 AM

Hello,

I have a customer with 40-user install of PSQL 8.6 with Backup Agent
1.0 (win2003) that needs 10-user count increase.

Is PSQL 10 / newest BA more or less stable than the former?
Would upgrade be justified?

There is one problem to solve:
About 3 times a year backup procedure would crash Pervasive _hard_ ,
for unknown reason.
This involved corrupting files - status 2. Not good at all.

Is it better to stick with V8 and hunt for user count increase
licenses or go straight to v10 (expensive route) and be sure that it
is more stable?

Any suggestions and opinions are welcome
Thanks in advance
Przem

For the license side of things, we still have licenses in stock for
PSQLV8. You can get more information from
www.goldstarsoftware.com/prices8.asp.

As for the crashing issue, note that PSQLV8 and BA1.0 *do* have some
known issues, especially when you are rapidly opening and closing files
at the time ContOps is being activated. This seems to confuse the
Backup Agent and hang the server. You may be able to still get the
BA1.0 patch from Pervasive, but since this version is no longer actively
supported, they may not want to provide it. If they give you a hassle,
then I can probably help find you a copy.

If you need more licenses ANYWAY, then the best solution will be to
upgrade to PSQLv10. You can get the 50-user count for the discounted
upgrade price, which will save you a LOT of money on the license.
You'll get PSQLv10.10 if you order now, so I would also recommend
upgrading your Backup Agent to the new v2.0 ($125 list) at the same
time, which is required to work with v10.10 and higher. We can get you
pricing on that, if you need, as well, and we can provide licenses
electronically if you do not wish to pay for international shipping.

If you have other questions, feel free to send them to me directly.
