Default Simultaneous NT Server and Novell on same PC - 01-19-2004 , 12:54 PM

My company is converting from Novell servers to NT servers over the course
of a few weeks. Is it possible to run Pervasive clients in both an NT
environment and Novell environment at the same time on the same PC?

As long as the two Pervasive servers are the same version 2000i or V8
it should not matter. There is only one Pervasive client and it is
not specific to any type of server NT / NetWare / Linux.

The only issues is when you try mixing versions, but even that is
usually ok.
e.g. The Pervasive.SQL 2000i client is supporte for 2000i and V8
engines. The V8 client will work with both engines (need to patch a
2000i NT server if you have one, but you are migrating the other way.

Of course for the V8 security release to work (with the extra security
features) you would need the V8 security release client. Even that
should would back to 2000i.

The only other gotcha is if the servers have the same name.
The client remembers what type of server it is to reduce the amount
of time connecting the next time. And of course the underlying
mechanisms are different enought that it can cause issues.
Of course if both servers are up at the same time they can not have
the same name.
