Default Running Pervasive SQL v7.82 (sp2a) workstation engine on Win2003 Terminal Server - 04-14-2004 , 06:16 PM

Hello all

We have an accounting program that uses the pervasive workstation
engine. We have installed this program and pervasive on the terminal
server. When a client logs in to a session and tries to launch the
accounting program an error "Btrieve Status 1020" is received. I
checked the PVSW.log and the entries in there are:

"The communications server is not available.
Resources allocated
MicroKernel cannot get sufficient memory to complete the operation.
Resources released"

However, no such error when logged in as admin. I have ensured correct
permissions to registry, pvsw folder etc. I have also taken
w3dbsmgr.exe off start-up. As I expect the engine should auto-load
when launch the accounting program. I have searched this group but
have not found any postings related to this.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Terminal server is win2003.
Pervasive SQL 2000 7.82 (sp2a) workstation engine

TIA.

Edward

Pervasive SQL 2000 7.82 (sp2a) workstation engine was not supported on
Terminal Services (any version) and will probably be problematic in
that environment.
A single user on the terminal server might be able to get it to work
ok, but a second user would cause problems if I remember correctly.
A local server engine of the same version would work ok but would not
be supported on the brand new OS. Actually it is not supported at all
any more: http://www.pervasive.com/support/lifecycle.asp

Have you thought of upgrading the database product to the current
version that is supported with that new OS and configuration?

I can not think of any reason why a first user would get the logged
message except if the cache allocation size is set too large.
Is there a memory cap per user?
If so the database engine can be set to use less memory. There may be
a perfomance penalty involved.
