Default Retrieve .dat files - 10-26-2005 , 09:06 PM

Hi,

I have been trying to view some .dat files(accompanied with .lck
files) thta my client has supplied me with. I do not know the structure
of the data. I want to view these files in Pervasive SQL 2000i.
I have tried BtSearch32 but 1) it needs registration for little things
and 2) It does not convert most of the files anyways (throws the 'This
file may be damaged. If this file is not encrypted you may use
BtSearch32 file repair by selecting menu option then Fix/Optimise').
And as it goes, that feature is only available if you buy it.
Is there any other way by which I can see the data, including the
structure. I want to view this data first and then use it alongside
php. So I will need an ODBC connection for it.

TIA
MD

In order to use ODBC you will have to either get the DDF files from the
original vendor or you will have to build them yourself. Btrieve files
do not contain the field layout within them. Since Btrieve files can
contain any type of data including binary numbers, dates and times if
you just use Butil it will dump the data but the binary data will show
as unreadable. You also only need to worry about the .dat files. In
order to use BtSearch32 you will need the Pervasive Btrieve drivers
installed. For a video of the process of creating the DDF files you
can visit www.nssdd.com and select the support button. It will not
convert the files until you have created the DDF files. If you get an
error 2 in the DDF creation process then you may have a corrupt file.
Thanks,

Gil
