Hi btrivians,

I import about 1 000 000 records from an ascii-file into 6
btrieve-tables. A littel programm decides from the data in which of
that tables the data go.
Now I made a strane observation: the first 500 000 records are
importet very fast: in about 15 mins. The 6 tables than are about 100
MB large. During the second 500 000 the engine decelerates more an
more: it makes periodical brakes of 1/2 secunds or so (you can see
that very nice in the included taskmanager-screenshot).
So reading (and writing) the second 500 000 records lasts about 2 hours.

I guess it becomes harder and harder for the engine to add new pages
the the btrievefiles.

Can I do anything to optmize the engine?

Any hint will be very welcome!

Regards

Mircea

Much of this could be related to your disk performance. Putting the
data on a RAID10 array should improve performance, or try a RAMDISK if
you've got free memory for it.
