Default Protocal for Btrieve - 10-27-2004 , 06:35 PM

Server Novell Netware 5.1 SP4
Pervasive.SQL 2000i 7.94

Clients Win XP Pro with 2000i clients

Our set-up has been working successfully for a number of years over SPX/IPX.
I wish to have wireless access to the Pervasive data on the server. I have
been told that wireless will only work over TCP/IP.
Are there pitfalls to watch out for if I enable TCP/IP on the server? I do
not want to change over all clients to TCP/IP, only the laptop which will
use wireless. Will Pervasive work with both protocols enabled?

TIA

I don't know why wireless would not work with SPX. It is just a
network card, however the wireless router... probably not for most of
them.

Maybe. The transactional engine itself can use both at the same time
without issue. The Pervasive.SQL 2000i SQL engine can only use one.

Leonard
Thanks for your reply. It is the router I have that is causing the
restriction.
Does anyone know about a Wireless access point that will work over SPX/IPX ?
TIA

To be honest I do not know of any but I have not been looking either.

You might like TCP better as it is typically faster than SPX. I have
a feeling that a TCP wireless conection will still be slower than a
hard wired SPX connection though.
