Default Pervasive WG and CS compatibility - 09-23-2005 , 10:38 AM

Hi,

I have a Pervasive SQL 2000 Workgroup application. If I install a Pervasive
SQL 8 client-server application will there be problems running both apps on
the same client PC?
Both apps would be looking at central unique databases.

Regards,
SW

Hmm

Is the server app running embedded. For example if all the PSQL 8 programs
are with the server software on the server and not installed as at true
client, then this might work. But if its a client install, then its likely
that the 2000 workgroup will be archived.

I think maybe the best thing to do is purchase a workgroup PSQL 8 engine to
install on the workstation, this will give you the 8 client automatically.
Then in PCC set the local engine to access its data in version 7.x format.
That way it shouldn't change the data for other workgroup users. However,
you may want to check with the application provider to see that it won't
make other problems.

Also, I don't know what would happen if your workgroup data is accessed by a
2000 client and 8 client at the same time?

Cheers

Hi,
I don't know yet if it's embedded or not, but its looking likely that the
workgroup app has to be upgraded to client server, or there will be
conflicts. Vizual support are going to come back with a definitive answer
about compatibility.
I need to talk to the other application provider about embedded-ness.

Thanks,

SW

There can be a problem -- yes.

The PSQLV8 client will install over the PSQL2000i Workgroup Engine
(WGE) (after displaying a warning message that it is doing it) and
remove the older code. This will remove the WGE functionality from the
computer.

For best results, you should ALSO upgrade your PSQL2000i WGE to the
PSQLV8 WGE at the same time. The PSQLV8 WGE *does* include the PSQLV8
client, so this will work properly for both systems. Given the cost of
the WGE ($25 per seat), this shouldn't be too hard to do -- as long as
you don't need more than 5 users in your WGE application.
