Default Opening a Pervasive with without an Owner Name - 10-05-2006 , 07:04 PM

Hello,

I've inherited a Pervasive V9 database without a password to open it. The
password is stored in one of the Pervasive files but I can't open that file
without an Owner Name, which I don't have.

Is there a way to look through a Pervasive file (like Function Executor) by
bypassing the Owner Name? No one at the organization knows either the Onwer
Name or Password to the database.

Thank you,

If it is a "boxed" application the application itself may be incontrol
of database security. This is not that uncommon as it prevents users
from bypassing any business rules that may be in the application. If
so your best bet would be to contact the application vendor.

If it is an application that was written in house then your best bet
would be to contact the former DBA or developer.

Hi Patrick,

Leonard is correct, of course, but I'm just going to ask one of those
"Is the washing machine plugged in?" questions: You have attempted to
open the database using the Pervasive.SQL Control Center, haven't you?

Hi Leonard,

Yes, used the Pervasive.SQL Control Center. Unfortunately, the file where
the password is kept is not
translated to a table. If it was, I would take the encrypted password and
replace it with one that is known.
MS SQL allowed me to do that but Pervasive.SQL does not. That's why I'm
asking for a way to bypass
the Owner Name.
