Default ODBC creation error - 07-01-2004 , 09:48 AM

Hi all,

I'm having some problems with the creation of a ODBC Client DSN on my PC. I
have a Novell 5 server with pervasive 200 installed on it. From my client
(win 2k and Pervasive 2k) I try to create a Pervasive ODBC client DSN. I
follow the wizzard and I receive some strange errors. For example:
* While I try to create a database in the PCC I get this error: "Failed to
create database on remote server. Pervasive.SQL cannot open the DBNAMES.CFG
file, or a bindery error occured.
* While I try to create a Pervasive ODBC client DSN and i fill in the server
address and click on the Data Source Name Create button I get this error:
"An error occured while trying to retrieve database names on server machine.
An internal status code 2343 occured. Refer to the documentation for further
assistance". But the documentation says: 2343: Named database general error:
Unspecified error.
* When I try to connect to the server by the PCC and login as the server
admin I get the error: Cannot retrieve database names. You do not have
sufficient access rights for the operation.

Does anybody know what to do about this, or has had the same error.

Thanks in advance

I also have a Word document with Screenprints of the errors, but I cannot
post it.

For anybody who wants to see it: I can mail it to you

Generally this sounds like the SYS:SYSTEM\DBNAMES.CFG file that stores
the Named Database configuration information is not accessible.
Make sure the account being used to create the database has write
privileges to it. If you do not specify which admin account the one
in the container with the server is used.
If there are no databases already defined you can rename (or delete)
the dbnames.cfg file and it will automatically be recreated.
