Default Newbie 2000i question - 10-25-2004 , 12:27 PM

Hi,

I would say I am competant in MS SQL, ODBC and "back in the day" xbase
programming.

I am flumoxed however in how to set up an odbc connection for an
*existing* btrieve database being accessed though 2000i.

Can anyone tell me how to setup one or point to a "for dummies" page,
I'm more confused than a centrefold taking a physics exam.

Thanks,

N

You need to first set up your connection to the database in the
Pervasive Control Panel. Once you do that then you can access it from
the ODBC setup. Once that is done you should be able to connect.

First you need to create a DB on the Pervasive server. Go to the
Pervasive Control Center and expand the tree until you can see
"Databases" under your SQL server name. Then right-click on
"Databases". Select "New Database" Select Engine Interface, your
server and the server's Admin and pswd, click next. Enter the name of
youer DB and the directory where you want it. Do not check "Advanced
settigns". Click next and then finish.
Now we need to create the ODBC DSN. In the main menu click Tools/ODBC
administrator. Click the System DNS tab, click on the "Add" button,
choose "Pervasive ODBC Client Interface". Click Finish. Enter a
DSN(whatever you like). Enter the server IP or name. Click on Get DSN
List, now select the DB you just created from the list. Click test
and, once the test is ok, click "OK". There, you have just created the
DB on the Pervasive server and the DSN to connect to the DB with ODBC.
