Default Migrate an existing Pervasive SQL7 database to Pervasive SQL8 on new hardware - 09-22-2004 , 04:23 PM

Hi,

We would like to migrate an existing Pervasive SQL7 database to
Pervasive SQL8.

We want to avoid upgrading the existing live database so the intention
is to install V8 on a new server and migrate the database from the old
V7 server to the new V8 server.

Current :
Win NT 4 / SP6a
Pervasive SQL 7 (Betrieve v7.0 for Windows NT)
Pentium 2 / 350Mhz
RAM 192MB

New :
Win 2000 / SP4 (Or perhaps Win 2003)
Pervasive SQL 8
Pentium 4
RAM 1GB

So far we have downloaded and installed the trial version of Pervasive
SQL 8 and copied the files (*.dat and *.dff) to the new server. What
tasks need to be performed to run the database on the new V8 server?

The client application is a Magic Software application.

Many Thanks
Paul

You've already done it. Simply point the application to the new server
and you're all set! How to do this depends on your application -- if your
app accesses files based on drive letter, then just make sure that you
have the drive letter mapped correctly.

Probably just map the drives on the client machine to the new server.
Magic does not normally need (and I would not expect it to if it was
on 7) an ODBC data source.

Other than that you may (probably) need to install the new matching
Pervasive client.
