Default migrate database from Btrieve 4.1 to ... - 10-02-2005 , 01:03 PM

My employer has a 1991 database with job/task analysis information for a
critical occupation. The files were built using Btrieve 4.1 (*.BTR). There
are no DDF. The original program disk was lost in a recent move, and we
don't have a copy of BUTIL. Any suggestions, ideas as to how we might
proceed?

If you need to build the DDF files you can take a look at BtSearch32 at
www.nssdd.com. It will allow you to analyze the structure and build
the DDF files. Then you can use it to export your data or use ODBC.

You can find a copy of BUTIL at
http://www.goldstarsoftware.com/down...p#BtrieveUtils I think the BUTIL
for 5.x will work with the older Btrieve 4.1 files. You might try to dump
the files and see if you can make any sense of the data even without DDF
files. What database are you trying to migrate to... ?

Most likely to Access. The files are not large, probably about 1,000 records
for each of 9 data files.
