Default Microkernal Workstation Engine & Service Applications - 01-29-2010 , 01:18 PM

I have been tasked to modify a client's application software program
so that it operates as a service. Writing service apps is new to me
but I think I can manage that. However, the client is currently
running Pervasive's "Microkernal Database Engine Version 6.15.430",
the workstation version. This software runs locally and only fires up
once a person logs into the Windows operating system. The goal of my
client is to run their software application on an unattended virtual
server (remotely administrated) and they really don't want anyone to
have to log in. That, in my mind, requires some form of Btrieve that
also runs as a service. I could be wrong here as I am relatively new
to service application.

Anyway, I am wondering if their version of Pervasive's MKDE will work,
if it can or needs to be configured to run as a service, or if the
client needs to upgrade and if so, to what. Any feedback would be most
appreciated!

Jim...

youe are right: you should run PSQL as a service. It can be made using
"srvany": google for "pervasive srvany".

This seem to be possible only to PSQL 2000i or later, so you should
upgrade. (If you upgrade to PSQL 10.x, there is no support for 16-bit
apps any more, and PSQL 9.x is not longer availabe...: I dont know,
but may be you can gat PSQL 9.x still from
http://www.goldstarsoftware.com)
