Install both network client and local engine? -

We are long-time users of Pervasive in a Novell Netware shop. The
workstations in our office, mostly running Windows 2000, are connected
to the Novell LAN and to Pervasive for Netware, via the Pervasive
Client.
We have been told in the past that for this configuration we should
NOT install any local Btrieve engines. The few times we have tried
this has apparently caused problems - Pervasive data files (accessed
from the workstation with the local engine) are locked and can only be
released by stopping and starting Pervasive on the server.
However, I get the impression that Pervasive intends the local engine
to be installed in all cases. For example, it appears that the SDK
(download) cannot be installed without a local engine present.
Should we be running local engines in our Netware environment? If so,
are there settings that need attention to avoid file locking?
Many thanks!
