Hello:

We have recently upgraded our DBA Manufacturing software to DBA 2004.1
with Pervasive.SQL V8. Soon after that we started having problems with
the system that will stop responding (i.e. the clients can't login,
logout or make any transaction/inquiry) Please note that we have
upgrade all the DBA clients as per upgrade instructions.

The problem is that there are no errors in the events log, so I have no
info to where to start from solving this problem. Also, the Pervasive
services (transactional and relational) seem to run ok.

We are also running a number of Crystal V7 reports. Do you think/know
of any incompatibilities between Crystal Rep. V7 and Pervasive V8?

Do you have any problems like this? Please let me know if you have any
ideas or pointers?

The systems runs on Win 2000 server ed. with clients running an Win NT4
and Wind 2000 Pro.

There are a lot of possible issues, ranging from large reports that
just don't optimize right on PSQLV8 to server hardware problems and
more.


When the event occurs, what is the state of the server? Can you open a
file with Function Executor from a workstation? Can you open it from
the server?

Do you have the latest Microsoft OS patches for Win2000 that prevent
the trojan/virus from taking over the system and slowing it to a crawl?

Have you already patched your system to Pervasive.SQL V8.7 -- also know
as Service Pack 3 of the database?

I don't know if this will help, but I've just spent 10 days on a Crystal
Reports / Pervasive problem, and I'm glad to say I got it solved.

My problem was that reports (all of them connected to Pervasive 8.5
Workstation or Server) just stopped responding at random times.
Sometimes I could print 100 reports other 1!!

On one machine I was using it worked every time, never hung. After
comparing dll versions, drivers and everything else I could think of I
was about to throw in the towel when I had one last idea. I was using
Crystal 8, so I located crpe32.dll for version 8.5 (I found them on the
web) and that cured my problem. This may work for you also as the
crpe32.dll will read and report version 7 reports. You may wish to get
the merge modules for Crystal 8.5 which has all the support files needed
also.

Using the new crep32.dll I have not had one hung machine and I have done
tests with thousands of pages and repeated reports thousands of times.

I never did get to the bottom of why I had one machine that never gave
me any trouble.

Finally, I tried lots of Pervasive versions (8.1, 8.5, 8.6 and 9.1) but
this was the wrong tree I was barking up, Pervasive was *not* the culprate.
