Default Database Service Manager encountered a problem and needed to close - 09-13-2007 , 06:03 AM

Hi -

Pervasive 200i sql, serivce pack 4 , version 7.9.0.0 build 230 running
on Windows 2003 server, service pack 2. MS updates as of 8/30/2007.

Once in a while we will recieve this pop-up on the server, which we
stop and start the Pervasive services to get the web application up
and running.

On the same server, once in a while we receive error code 03 from off-
line batch applications. Again we stop and start the services and
then resubmit the jobs.

On rare instance, we would need to re-start the server.

Normally MS Upates are NOT automatically turned ON, but about 2 months
ago when the server was re-located this got turned ON.

They MS automatic updates are now OFF, but we think these have a tie-
in to our issues.

Any additional information is appreciated or if there is a course of
action we should take. We are planning to back out the updates to our
last tested service pack - 7/12/07.

Additional IE 7.0 has been loaded on the server via auto updates,
which we also backout.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Deb

If you have Service Pack 4 already installed, I would also recommend
the SP4 hotfixes, which can be found on Pervasive's ftp site via a link
here: http://www.goldstarsoftware.com/psql2k.asp

Beyond that, there may be some additional updates, but the best
solution would be to upgrade the engine entirely to a supported
version, such as Pervasive PSQL v9. The newer engines are typically
faster and have many more bug fixes in them, in addition to other
benefits.

If you MUST stay on PSQL2000i, then you'll need to find out what is
causing the crash and eliminate it. It can be from a bad SQL call, a
bad stored procedure, or just about anything else. Depending on how
long it takes, you may need to collect network packets until the engine
crashes and then dissect them to find SQL queries to see what was sent
as the engine failed. Of course, since this engine is unsupported, no
fixes will be forthcoming, but you can at least change the app to avoid
the problem.
