Default Client and/or WS Engine on Notebook - 08-06-2003 , 05:49 AM

Hello,

our working environment is:
PSQL 7.0 SP 5 on Netware Server
DOS-Application using Btrieve API to access data on the server

For demonstrating purposes we have a notebook (with WS Engine 7.0)
with local data.

Now we need to access the server data from the notebook, the local
function (for demonstrations) must be kept.

What do I have to install/configure on the notebook?
Can I use the WS Engine or have I to install a client engine (instead
of the WS or additional to it)?

Thanks for your help

Karl

The Pervasive workstation engine comes with a full client.
All that is needed is the workstation engine.

The requester components that the applicaiton make the request to will
send the request to the appropriate engine based on the request.
e.g. c:\app\data\file.dat will be sent to a local engine while
n:\app\data\file.dat will be sent to the server that drive N: is
mapped to.

What Leonard said is correct, with one addition:

In the Pervasive.SQL 7 Setup-32 utility on the laptop, you should select
Microkernel Router and verify that Local=Yes, Requester=Yes, and Use
IDS=No. If you set Local=No, then you (temporarily) disable access the
the local drive. If you set Requester=No, then you (temporarily) disable
access to the server engine.

You need to restart the Pervasive components to have these changes take
effect -- I'd recommend a full reboot to be safe.
