What is the best (fastest) way to upload a text file into a Pervasive
database.

Lots of variables in that question:
- What format is the source data? (CSV, UNF, comma-delimited, tab
delimited, etc.)
- Which engine do you have? (Btrieve 5.x, Btrieve 6.15, PSQL7,
PSQL2000i, PSQLV8, PSQLv9)
- Do you have data dictionaries for the data that allow ODBC access?
Answer these questions & we'll be able to get you a proper reply.

The most flexible way to transfer ANY data to ANY target is Pervasive's
Data Integrator software package. If you don't mind limiting yourself
to Pervasive data sources and simple ASCII text, this can be easily had
for a low price. Of course, the full package is a bit more expensive,
but you can import and export data to/from over 100 different data
storage methods, including Pervasive, SQLServer, Oracle, DB2, text,
Excel, Access, and a whole lot more. Contact me for details if you
want to explore this option.

Hi,

We use ASCII flat files, with comma delimited.
Files are downloade from a AS/400 system, and uploaded with FTP to our
website.
We are using Pervasive PSQL2000i.

Daily we receive +/- 50000 records that we need to upload in our
database.
Existing records must be overwritten (or first deleted).

You had me right up to the last line item. If existing records must be
cleaned out, then the "standard" Pervasive tools would not really apply.

I would, instead, strongly recommend the use of Pervasive's Integration
product line. While there are a couple of different pricing options
(depending on your other needs), the Business Integrator might be the
best all-around solution, as it includes thge ability to automatically
process the files as they get dumped into the FTP site and clean them
up after the fact. With this, you would have a fully-automated
solution!

Let me know directly via Email if I can get your more information on
exact pricing options. You can find lots of product information from
Pervasive's website at www.pervasive.com.

BTW, the Integration products may be able to interface directly with
the AS/400 data, if that makes sense and saves some steps...
